The first album I ever bought was ‘Riot’ by Paramore. I can vividly remember walking into HMV, hell-bent on buying it. I can also remember the feeling of relief when I finally had it. In retrospect, I admit to treating it similar to the way Sikhs treat the Guru Granth Sahib, or rather the way Gollum treated the Ring. I know. I was obsessed. Really obsessed.
This album was one of their best. It was written during their best moments as a band, when the brothers were still there and they hadn’t starting producing pop hits (‘Still Into You’, for example. That is if you think it’s even worth mentioning!).
What makes Paramore stand out from other musicians is that Hayley Williams (lead vocals) doesn’t use her looks to sell her music. She has set a role model for girls, she shows them that they don’t have to be “sexy” or “attractive” to be liked and popular, and that it’s ok to be who you are, whoever you are.
She has changed the way a lot of people look at famous women because she is different. How can you not like her?!
